ARTIST STATEMENT
My work explores the liminal space between reality and the surreal, drawing inspiration from folklore narratives and philosophical questions about identity and connection. Through my large-scale, semi-surrealist paintings, I fuse together personal experiences of anxiety and disconnection with that of folklore narratives to create a visual landscape that challenges conventional perceptions of human connected-ness.
The recurring motifs in my work – distorted figures, disembodied eyes, and organic, fluid connections – speak to themes of isolation, disconnection, and the tension between societal expectations and one’s collective identity. My compositions take on a more playful approach, utilizing bright color palettes and bold lines, juxtaposed with unsettling shell-like figures, inviting viewers to confront the duality of what is expected of them and who they really are.
As an artist with a background in philosophy and metaphysics, I am drawn to the interplay between narrative and symbolism. The eyes in my work, for example, are both observers and participants in the narratives I create. Ultimately, my work seeks to bridge the gap between the internal and external experiences of both my body and my mind, and acts as an invitation for viewers to engage in a similar capacity with their own selves.
